Giotto

Giotto is considered the father of European painting. He was painting over a period of forty years, from the 1290s and his work has influenced and been appreciated for seven hundred years. Giotto looks to nature for inspiration and brings the people in heaven back to earth.

He is considered to be the first Renaissance artist. He was active in the 1420s and dying relatively young, he produced relatively little. What he did produce however was innovative and powerful and is the visual expression of the beginning of the cultural revolution we call the Renaissance.
